Animal Assisted Therapeutic, Recreational & Outdoor Programs:
Mentoring: Kid-safe youth events, activities and day-programs.
We believe the most important thing you can do for a child developmentally is to read to them.  After this, providing a variety of healthy outdoor activities is the best thing you can do for your child.  As we become a more urban world, we are leaving our connections to animals and nature in the dust.  Too few children have the opportunity to ever touch a farm animal or ride a horse... not to mention learn the skill necessary to care for them.  At RIDE, our volunteers work with kids and nature to provide enrichment and learning opportunities not in a classroom but outdoors, where kids belong.  We are developing our own cirriculumn, which of course is in book form and meant to travel to the stables, fields and haylofts where kids learn best!
Animal Assisted therapeutic activities and Life Skills Coaching.
RIDE is partnering with programs and professionals who realize the importance of connecting with individuals in an open, relaxed atmosphere.  What is more relaxed than standing in a stable full of horses and other farm animals, or sitting with a kitten or dog at your side?  Studies have shown that seniors, youth, and those with mental illness are more likely  to open up and work through issues with the tactile and emotional support of an animal in the therapy setting.  RIDE is focused on expanding these theraputic services in SE MN.
Programs to encourage physical activity and outdoor experiences.
Our volunteers work hard to provide for our animals, and maintain the land that they are house on.  But shouldn't everyone have the chance to walk on a trail, dig in the dirt, and just have fun with animals and nature?  RIDE offers opportunities for body active individual or team building experiences.  RIDE partners with other organizations to make the most of our programming sites, and help individuals without access to a rural setting experience the good life, farm life!
RIDE is developing programming complete with animals and nature.  Sure the kids will get dirty, but they wash!  It's just the smiles that are hard to scrub off after a busy day on the farm.  Here is whats scheduled this fall:

POSITIVE PARENTING FROM THE BARN

POSITIVE PARENTING FROM THE BARN is a personal look at parenting from a horse¹s point of view. The course is an interactive equine assisted learning activity that takes learning from the classroom into the practical arena of living and breathing, feeling, and sometimes frustrating equine mentors. Activities help us to discover and understand ourselves as parents by accepting, challenging, and teaching us about the way we relate to one another. The outdoor experience, and unexpected responses of each horse's unique personality help us to gain insight directing the course for becoming the best parent we can be.

RAISING CAPABLE KIDS

RAISING CAPABLE KIDS is a program designed to equip parents, teachers, coaches and mentors for the task of preparing young people to be resilient, intelligent. The focus on three basic perceptions and four skills builds problem-solving skills and prepares young people to face life¹s challenges  and navigate relationships at home and the work place.

Former participants have said:
"I love the idea of parenting 'Capable Kids' that there is actually joy in
parenting, not just chores and work. It's never too late to change for the
better, but it does take knowing how and practicing what you learn."
"It is beneficial for any age parent or grandparent, teacher or mentor."
"It has taken the frustration out of discipline."
"This was all new to me!"
"I loved the idea of self-reliant children instead of self-indulgent
children. It really helps focus on being a contribution to the family."
"The horses created a memorable experience that I didn't expect."
"I would wholeheartedly recommend this course!"

Equine assisted activities play a large part of the unique learning
experience, providing a practical and in the moment interaction with living
breathing, feeling and sometimes frustrating horse mentors. Participants
will also have two books for reference, a workbook, and each activity is
accompanied by professional video instruction. The multi-dimensional
instruction provides optimal learning methods for each person.
