Rescue/Recreation Involving Deserving Equine (RIDE) is a volunteer driven network of equine professionals, rescuers, trainers, owners and educators who joined forces in 2008 to promote responsible horse ownership and therapeutic equine recreation opportunities.  Our commitment to the horse has made us who we are today, and will help make RIDE the organization of choice tomorrow for owners and novices alike.

Phase One:  Develop a non-profit network of emergency responders and foster care providers.

Work on phase one is well underway.  Volunteers are:

- working on Board of Director responsibilities, 501c3 paperwork, business processes and information policies.

- foster homes are active, but many, many more are needed!  If you have space to house a horse needing rehabilitation, or room for a horse just needing a temporary home please let us know!

- lists of emergency responders are being compiled.  If you have a truck and trailer, a strong back, or just a willing heart..... volunteer!   Our volunteers are committed to serve and willing to assist the MN Horse Council's Equine Disaster needs!

Phase Two: Develop a public presence to increase awareness of Equine Rescue and Therapeutic Recreation in SE Minnesota.

Work on Phase Two has begun.  Volunteers are:

- working on this website and other promotional information, and are  actively networking with in the SE MN horse and therapy communities.

- taking calls and providing help to families in need of assistance caring for their horses, or struggling to make difficult end of life decisions.

- collecting data about equine events and activities, developing
referral lists for vendors of services including equine veterinarians   and chiropractors, farriers, myotherapists and massage therapists, tack stores, feed suppliers, stables and training services for horse and rider.  If you wish to promote your talents or services with new horse owners, let us know!

- pulling the organizations and professionals together to develop cirriculum and programs for therapeutic activities.  Our volunteers are working on certifications (humans and animals) and investigating how best to serve the residents of SE MN.

Phase Three: Locating a permanent facility near Rochester to house animals ready for adoption, events, and therapeutic activities.

Still on the wish list!  We are happy that the Rochester Regional Equestrian Center has expressed interest in finding room for us in their proposed facility.  We are actively searching for a farmsite near rochester from which to conduct business, and serve as a hub for our regional activities.  Program sites in other communities are well under way.  Thinking of starting a program?  Save time and money by joining us in our efforts to serve horses and humans alike!

Phase Four: Partner with health professionals and other organizations to implement Animal Assisted Therapeutic Programing for individuals with a wide variety of life challenges.

Still in the early stages, but making excellent progress.  Welcome to the TURNING POINT program, who joined our ranks in May of 2008! Also, thanks to MN-Linc, Camp Winnebago and all of those who stepped forward at the 2008 Rochester Horse Expo to share resources and ideas to move this phase forward.  Our partnering approach is producing great results, and RIDE is open to networking with other organizations to fufill our goal of offering therapeutic programming  across SE MN.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome!
